Receiving contributions from unregistered groups

April 22, 2024

Campaigns that accept contributions from groups that are not political committees registered with the FEC (such as state PACs, unregistered local party committees or nonfederal campaigns) must ensure the contributions not only fall within the per election limits, but also come from funds that are permissible under the Act. When reporting a contribution from an unregistered organization, a campaign should note that the contribution contains only federally permissible funds.

Unregistered organizations should be aware that making contributions to federal campaigns and political committees may trigger a registration requirement.
